Frequently Asked Questions
I work all day during the week. I don't think i'll have the time for this.
I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy or coaching weak and undisciplined?
People who ask for help know when they need it and feel ready to receive it. We can’t do it all alone. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.
What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?
Licensed Clinical Social Workers, like Board Certified Coaches, are trained and experienced in treating a variety of problems people face. Family and friends are necessary for our wellbeing; however, receiving the guidance and perspective from a trained professional will open new avenues and help you approach your situation in a new way. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
Because each person has different issues and goals, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my approach to your specific needs.
How long will it take?
Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time needed to accomplish goals depends on several factors. Whether we work together in coaching or in psychotherapy, i will do my best to provide you with a timeline once we have a treatment plan in place.
I want to get the most out of the services. What can I do to help my progress move along?
Active participation is crucial to success. Some clients love educational diagrams, short videos, between-session assignments, reading materials etc. And other clients rather do most of the work in-sessions only. Though practicing tools we discuss in sessions are a key component to progress, we will work together to find a solution that works for your preferences.
What is the difference between Coaching and Psychotherapy?
In psychotherapy, we address mental health symptoms that are affecting your relationships, your work, you thoughts and feelings, your choices etc. It is mostly centered around developing a deeper understanding of yourself, including your past and present.
In Coaching, we do not delve into your past nor address traumatic events that affect your day-to-day life. Instead, it is a very structured plan created to show you that you have the discipline and motivation to stop problematic lifestyle behaviors that are affecting your body and mind.
Though psychotherapy and coaching are both insight-focused, strength-based, and aim to provide you with practical tools so you may function in line with your values and desires; they differ in what is discussed during the sessions. I maintain clear boundaries between the two modalities to avoid any confusion.
